Job summary

NZ Clean Energy, based in Auckland, seeks a Finance Manager to lead financial stewardship across its operations and project entities in New Zealand.

Based in our Britomart office with hybrid flexibility, you will partner with Directors, manage budgeting and forecasting, oversee project finance, and provide strategic financial oversight across renewables developments.

Qualifications

• CA ANZ or equivalent accounting qualification required.
• Strong knowledge of NZ tax, accounting and reporting requirements.
• Significant experience in financial management, reporting, governance and compliance.
• Proven ability to produce high-quality board reporting and financial analysis.
• Budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management and financial modelling capability.

Job description

NZ Clean Energy is a leading developer of renewable energy projects across Aotearoa. Our portfolio includes utility-scale solar generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and other renewable energy infrastructure supporting New Zealand's transition to a resilient, low-carbon future.

As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead the financial stewardship of the company and its project entities, supporting the delivery of major renewable energy developments across New Zealand.

The Opportunity

Based in our office in the Britomart area, this is a hybrid role, with some flexibility for the right candidate.

Working directly with the Directors, the Finance Manager will be responsible for the overall financial health of NZ Clean Energy and its associated project companies.

Working closely with the Business Support Manager, who manages day-to-day accounting operations and payroll alongside broader business support responsibilities, you will provide strategic financial oversight and ensure the business maintains robust financial systems, governance, forecasting and reporting frameworks.

You will be a trusted adviser to the Directors, providing commercial insight, supporting project financing initiatives and helping guide investment decisions across a growing portfolio of renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership

• Lead financial strategy and oversight across NZ Clean Energy and associated project entities.
• Partner with the Directors to support strategic planning, business growth and commercial decision-making.
• Provide clear financial analysis and insight to support investment and development opportunities.
• Develop and maintain robust financial controls, policies and governance frameworks.
• Manage key relationships with auditors, tax advisers, banks, investors and other external stakeholders.

Project Finance and Investment Support

• Support debt and equity funding processes for renewable energy projects.
• Develop, maintain and review project financial models.
• Coordinate financial inputs for lender and investor due diligence and financing requirements.
• Evaluate project returns, investment opportunities and funding structures.
• Monitor project financial performance and compliance with funding obligations.

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Lead annual budgeting across the business and project entities.
• Prepare rolling forecasts and longer-term financial plans.
• Develop and maintain cashflow forecasts and funding projections.Identify and communicate key financial risks, opportunities and performance drivers.

Board Reporting and Governance

• Prepare accurate, timely and insightful monthly and quarterly board reporting packs.
• Present financial performance, forecasts, risks and strategic insights to the Directors.
• Support governance requirements across multiple entities and investment structures.
• Monitor compliance with financing arrangements, reporting obligations and key financial commitments.

Financial Reporting and Compliance

• Oversee management accounts, statutory financial statements and year-end processes.
• Ensure compliance with New Zealand accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Lead external audit processes and maintain effective working relationships with advisers.
• Provide oversight of treasury, cash management and financial systems.

Tax Management

• Lead New Zealand tax compliance and planning, including income tax, GST, FBT and withholding tax obligations.
• Manage relationships with external tax advisers.
• Identify and manage tax risks and opportunities across the business and its project portfolio.

About You

• Chartered Accountant qualification through CA ANZ, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification recognised in New Zealand.
• Strong knowledge of New Zealand tax, accounting and financial reporting requirements.
• Significant experience in financial management, reporting, governance and compliance.
• Proven experience producing high-quality board reporting and meaningful financial analysis.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management and financial modelling capability.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work effectively across multiple legal entities and competing priorities.
• Experience supporting project finance transactions or other debt and equity funding processes.
• Experience in infrastructure, property development, utilities, construction or another capital-intensive sector.
• Experience working with investors, lenders and external advisers.
• Experience supporting capital raising, investment decisions or high-growth businesses.
• Exposure to renewable energy or the broader energy sector. Renewable energy experience is not essential.
