Job summary

Smiths Detection, part of Smiths Group, is seeking a Field Service Engineer to service electrical and electronic equipment across New Zealand and the Pacific region. Based in Auckland, you will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair systems at customer sites while collaborating with clients to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• This role requires a degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years in field service, troubleshooting, repair, or maintenance of electrical/electronic systems.
• Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to read electrical/mechanical schematics and communicate with customers.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical/electronic equipment at customer sites.
• Diagnose faults using schematics and identify root causes.
• Provide customer training and technical support as required.
• Respond to service requests and maintain service KPIs.
• Prepare service reports and manage spare parts/inventory.
• Support service sales opportunities and revenue initiatives.
• Ensure calibration and maintenance of tools/test equipment.
