Job summary

Downer & Company is seeking a Construction Operator to join our Invercargill team, delivering capital works across water networks. You will operate plant and machinery, install pipelines and support emergency responses in a dynamic, outdoor role.

Qualifications

• Experience in civil construction, ideally within water, wastewater, storm water or pipeline projects.
• Confidence using construction plant, equipment and machinery safely and productively.
• Current Class 1 driver licence; Class 2 highly regarded.
• Excavator operating experience and WTR endorsements advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and in a close-knit team.
• Strong problem-solving and practical, can-do approach.
• Good communication and ability to complete job records and field documentation.
• Commitment to health, safety, environment and quality workmanship.
• Ability to build positive relationships with clients, subcontractors and the public.
• Willingness to support after-hours callouts and emergency response activities when required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a wide range of capital works, renewals and upgrades across the region's water networks.
• Operate plant and machinery safely and productively on site.
• Install pipelines and repair critical assets.
• Support emergency response activities when needed.
• Work with crews, supervisors and engineers to improve reliability of networks.
