Job summary

Kings Custom Ltd is a premium metalwork specialist in New Zealand, delivering high-end fabrication for commercial and residential projects. We seek a hands-on Workshop Foreman to lead the floor, drive daily production, and shepherd projects from drawing to completion.

You will supervise a team of 20 fabricators, coordinate laser cutters, laser welders, and press brakes, and ensure flawless finishes on kitchen benchtops and architectural pieces.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualified fabricator or sheet metal worker with strong metalwork background.
  • Experience supervising 10–20 staff in a fast-paced workshop.
  • Proficiency with press brakes, laser cutters/welders, and polishing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the floor, supervise a team of 20 fabricators, manage daily workflow.
  • Coordinate scheduling and workflow for laser cutters, laser welders, and press brakes.
  • Ensure high standards on high-finish kitchens and heavy steel jobs; perform site measures as needed.
  • Interpret complex drawings and ensure accurate execution on the floor.
  • Provide hands-on guidance in TIG/MIG welding setups, laser welding, and polishing.

Our diverse portfolio includes high-finish commercial and residential kitchens, bespoke stainless and mild steel work, architectural balustrades, and light structural steel.

Equipped with a modern workshop featuring advanced Laser Machines, Laser Welders, and Press Brakes, our team of 20 skilled fabricators and apprentices takes pride in precision and versatility. We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Workshop Foreman to lead our floor, manage daily production, and help drive our projects from drawing to completion.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Lead the Floor : Supervise, motivate, and coordinate a team of 20 fabricators, managing daily workflow and keeping the floor moving efficiently.

Oversee Modern Machinery: Coordinate the scheduling and workflow for our Laser Cutters, Laser Welders, and Press Brakes, ensuring optimal machine utilization.

Maintain Quality Across Standards: Ensure flawless aesthetics on high-finish residential/commercial kitchen benching, while enforcing structural integrity on heavier mild steel jobs.

Site Work & Measures: Step out of the workshop when required to conduct precise site measures and assist with/oversee key site installations.

Blueprint to Reality: Interpret complex architectural, engineering, and shop drawings, ensuring the team executes layouts and dimensions perfectly.

Troubleshoot & Mentor: Act as the technical go-to on the floor, providing hands‑on guidance on traditional TIG/MIG welding setups, laser welding, and polishing techniques.

What We’re Looking For (Requirements)

Trade Qualified: Certified Fabricator, Sheet Metal Worker with a strong background in custom metalwork.

Versatile Expertise: Equal comfort working with thin‑gauge stainless steel (clean TIG/laser welding and seamless polishing).

Machinery Literacy: Hands‑on experience or strong working knowledge of Press Brakes and Laser machinery.

Leadership Track Record: Proven experience supervising or managing a team of 10–20 staff in a fast‑paced workshop environment.

Site Capabilities: A valid driver's licence and the ability to confidently handle site measures and client‑facing installation work.
