Job summary

GIB® Plasterboard is seeking reliable Production Operators for our Tauriko plant to join a high-volume, safety-led manufacturing team. You will set up equipment, monitor performance, diagnose issues and adjust operations to keep lines running safely and efficiently.

You will work on rotating day/night 12-hour shifts, with occasional Saturday work. A forklift licence is preferred, and there are strong opportunities for training and growth within Fletcher Building.

GIB® Plasterboard is a household name in New Zealand construction, and a part of Fletcher Building. For almost 100 years, we’ve been helping build healthier, more sustainable homes with two manufacturing plants in Tauranga and Christchurch and distribution facilities across the country. We are currently looking for reliable, practical and safety-conscious Production Operators to join our manufacturing team in the Board Plant at our Tauriko plant -a high-volume, safety-led manufacturing environment where teamwork and reliability matter.

About The Role

Our manufacturing plant involves highly automated manufacturing lines, combining advanced machinery, process control systems, and real-time quality monitoring. As a Production Operator, you’ll take ownership of a critical stage of the manufacturing process — setting up equipment, monitoring performance, diagnosing issues, and making adjustments to keep the line running safely, efficiently, and to specification.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Set up, operate and adjust production equipment in our board, or jointing and finishing production areas.
• Monitor process performance via control systems and respond to alarms or deviations.
• Replenish production lines to maintain output.
• Carry out quality checks and testing to ensure product meets strict standards.
• Safely operate forklifts and other plant equipment.

Hours of work

This role runs on a rotating day and night shift pattern working three to four 12-hour shifts between Monday to Friday. Occasional Saturday work may be required; Sundays are always free. Rosters are planned well in advance and shared evenly across the team.

About You

• Experience in a manufacturing, processing or technical operating environment (trade backgrounds also considered)
• Strong mechanical aptitude and confidence working with machinery and systems.
• Good numeracy and attention to detail.
• Clear communication skills and ability to work as part of a close-knit team.
• A strong commitment to health, safety and quality.
• A forklift licence is preferred with the ability to safely handle equipment and products up to 25kg
