Job summary

Transfleet Equipment Limited is seeking a Mechanical Engineering graduate to join our NZ-owned heavy vehicle engineering team. You will assist from concept through construction and commissioning, under the supervision of a qualified engineer.

Responsibilities include design development, liaising with clients and suppliers, creating AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks 3D drawings, and producing BOMs. Opportunities exist to progress toward certification pathways with Waka Kotahi.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical completed
  • Willingness to learn across design to project management
  • Fabrication/welding experience advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design from conception through construction and commissioning, including vehicle permitting
  • Liaising with clients, suppliers, workshop supervisors and staff
  • Understanding and applying software, including Microsoft 365, Excel and Access
  • Use of in-house software for creation and management of Bills of Materials
  • Producing accurate AutoCAD 2D and SolidWorks 3D drawings in a timely manner
  • Applying engineering knowledge to equipment design parameters and selections
  • Understanding NZTA/Waka Kotahi requirements and regulatory standards
  • Gain understanding of project documentation control and reporting

Job description

Transfleet Equipment Limited is a proudly 100% NZ owned and operated heavy vehicle road transport engineering company, manufacturing heavy truck bodies and trailers for the NZ transport industry since 1983.We focus predominantly on heavy vehicles for the cartage of bulk loads within the industry.

We have an in-house engineering design and certification team and want to add a graduate who has successfully completed their Bachelor of Engineering – Mechanical through a NZ tertiary provider and is interested in pursuing a career in the road transport Heavy Vehicle Engineering sector.

In this role you will be exposed to a range of responsibilities that span from design engineering to project management, whilst working under the supervision of a qualified engineer. Responsibilities include:

  • Mechanical design process from conception through to construction and commissioning including vehicle permitting
  • Liaising with clients, suppliers, workshop supervisors and staff
  • Understanding and competently applying software as required, including Microsoft 365, Excel and Access
  • Use of inhouse software for creation and management of Bills of Material
  • Producing accurate AutoCAD(2D) and Solidworks (3D) drawing in a timely manger
  • Applying engineering knowledge and solutions to project equipment selections in a competent manner
  • Applying equipment design parameters and underpinning equipment design principles
  • Producing accurate engineering calculations
  • All aspects of project document control
  • Gain a deep understanding of NZ, Australian and other regulatory standards as well as comprehending and applying the relevant Waka Kotahi NZTA requirements
  • Fabrication and welding experience advantageous

Looking forward the future could be a progression to qualify as a Heavy Vehicle Inspector working under Transfleet as an Inspecting Organisation for Waka Kotahi in heavy vehicle compliance.Following on from that there is potential to then progress through a pathway to qualify as a Heavy Vehicle Specialist Certifier.
