Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is hiring an Engineering Practice Lead to shape engineering standards and enablement across BNZ Technology. You will influence across teams, champion quality practices, and guide responsible AI-assisted engineering adoption to lift productivity and delivery quality.

You will work with Engineering and AI product teams to drive roadmaps, set expectations, and build scalable, sustainable engineering practices at BNZ.

Qualifications

• Strong technical credibility across modern software engineering practices.
• Experience defining or evolving engineering standards or frameworks in large environments.
• Adoption-led mindset with pattern recognition across teams.
• Ability to influence behaviour without formal authority.
• Coaching orientation and relationship-building with engineers.

Responsabilités

• Define and evolve engineering practice standards across coding, design, testing and SDLC.
• Create and maintain reference practices and guidance for BNZ engineering.
• Champion quality engineering practices such as test automation and CI/CD quality controls.
• Act as custodian of the engineer role and clarify expectations across levels.
• Support engineering career progression with practical guidance and enablement.
• Coach engineering leaders to uplift practice maturity through targeted interventions.
• Measure and report engineering practice health using evidence to guide improvements.
• Align engineering standards with governance and assurance outcomes.
• Collaborate with product, architecture and security teams to embed standards.
• Guide AI-assisted engineering tool adoption to deliver value.
