Position Overview
The Engineering Technician provides practical, hands‐on support to Wellumio's manufacturing and engineering team, with responsibility for prototype assembly, test and measurement, lab operations, and component management. This is a foundational role where accuracy, reliability, and initiative matter as much as technical skill. You will work directly with engineers on the Axana device, building prototypes, running defined tests, and keeping the lab running effectively as the team scales towards clinical device build.

What You’ll Do
1. Prototype Build & Assembly
- Assemble electronic and mechanical sub-assemblies, including magnetic device components, and integrated device prototypes under engineering direction
- Perform soldering, cable assembly, harness building, and component placement
- Follow assembly procedures and document build records accurately
2. Warehousing & Logistics
- Receive and inspect incoming components against purchase order specifications
- Maintain accurate records of parts, serial numbers, and test histories
- Maintain tooling and equipment required for prototype and NPI builds
- Identify issues and non-compliance with the orders
3. Test & Measurement
- Set up and operate test equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analysers, and bench power supplies
- Execute defined test procedures and record results accurately and completely
- Assist with hardware debug and bring‑up activities under engineer supervision
4. Lab Operations & Inventory
- Maintain lab organisation: component inventory, tooling, calibration schedules, and consumable stock
- Receive and inspect incoming components against purchase order specifications
- Maintain accurate records of parts, serial numbers, and test histories
5. Production Support
- Support build activities as the team transitions from R&D prototype to NPI-scale production
- Follow work instructions and raise issues when procedures are unclear or components do not conform
- Assist with packaging, freight, and logistics for components and prototype units
6. Safety & Housekeeping
- Maintain a safe, organised, and ESD-controlled working environment where relevant
- Follow health and safety procedures for RF and electrical equipment in the laboratory
- Support regular lab audits and ensure compliance documentation is current
What You’ll Bring
Experience & Qualifications
- New Zealand Diploma (Level 5 or 6) or 3-year Bachelor’s Degree (Level 7) in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or equivalent practical training
- 0–2 years of hands‑on experience in a hardware engineering, electronics production, or instrumentation environment
- Demonstrated accuracy in assembly, test execution, and record‑keeping
- Experience with standard laboratory test equipment
Technical Capabilities
- Basic mechanical assembly: fasteners, tolerances, and precision part handling
- Fine motor skills and dexterity for precision assembly tasks (e.g., soldering, component handling)
- Basic electronics: schematic reading, component identification, and signal tracing
- Hand soldering and rework skills (nice to have), with fine‑pitch SMD capability preferred
- ESD precautions and clean handling of sensitive electronic components
