Job summary

Rakon is seeking a Senior R&D Technician to join the Product R&D Engineering team in Auckland. You will support development, testing, and qualification of new products, setting up and operating test equipment, and analysing results to drive improvements.

You will collaborate with engineers and technicians, contribute to root-cause investigations, and help implement robust test methodologies in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering is required.
• Minimum 3 years’ hands-on product development/testing experience in high-volume manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Support development and validation of new products through testing, measurement, and analysis.
• Set up, operate, and maintain test and measurement equipment for experiments and qualifications.
• Assist with design and implementation of test methodologies, fixtures, and procedures.
• Conduct product, process, and reliability testing with accurate data collection and documentation.

We are seeking a Senior R&D Technician to join our Product R&D Engineering team in Auckland. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on technical professional who enjoys working at the forefront of product development and innovation. Supporting a team of engineers, you will play a key role in the testing, validation, analysis, and qualification of new products and technologies.

Working in a collaborative R&D environment, you will help bring new products from concept through to qualification by setting up and conducting tests, analysing results, troubleshooting technical issues, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. What You’ll Be Doing:

Product Development & Testing

• Support the development and validation of new products through testing, measurement, and analysis.
• Set up, operate, and maintain test and measurement equipment for engineering experiments and product qualification activities.
• Assist with the design and implementation of test methodologies, fixtures, and procedures.
• Conduct product, process, and reliability testing, ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.
• Analyse test results and prepare technical reports to support engineering decision-making.

Technical Support & Problem Solving

• Assist with prototype builds, product evaluations, and product qualification programmers.
• Support root cause investigations and contribute to corrective and preventive actions.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve testing methods, data analysis, and development processes.
• Contribute to a culture of innovation, safety, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering (required).
• At least 3 years’ experience in a product development, testing role within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of electronics principles and the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and test requirements.
• Hands-on experience using test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and data acquisition systems.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and present findings clearly and professionally.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
• A methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• A proactive, self-motivated attitude with strong attention to detail.
