Job summary

SGS, the world-leading testing, inspection and certification company, is seeking an experienced Engineer Surveyor to join our Industrial Regulatory team, servicing clients throughout the Christchurch region.

This role involves inspecting, certifying and advising on a broad range of industrial assets to ensure safety, reliability and regulatory compliance. You will work autonomously, partner with clients across industries and contribute to ongoing quality programmes.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/Bachelor's or higher in related engineering or equivalent experience.
  • CBIP qualifications in Pressure Equipment and/or Cranes are highly recommended.
  • Minimum five years' industrial, manufacturing, process, petrochemical, energy or heavy engineering experience.
  • Experience with pressure vessels, piping systems, boilers and asset inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of NZ regulations, standards and inspection practices.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with sound technical judgement.
  • Proactive, customer-focused approach.
  • A current New Zealand driver's licence.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct statutory and non-statutory inspections of pressure equipment, piping, boilers, cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Assess compliance with NZ regulations, standards and SGS quality requirements.
  • Prepare technical inspection reports and certification recommendations.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Identify and support new business opportunities.
  • Review trainee reports and mentor developing inspectors.
  • Assist with training and mentoring developing inspectors.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality management processes.

You will play a key role in ensuring the integrity, safety and compliance of critical industrial equipment while providing trusted technical expertise and guidance.

About the Role

As an Experienced Engineer Surveyor, you will provide inspection, certification and technical advisory services across a broad range of industrial assets, including pressure vessels, piping systems, boilers, cranes and lifting equipment.

Working with clients across manufacturing, energy, food processing, utilities and heavy industry, you will assess asset integrity, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support safe and reliable operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct statutory and non-statutory inspections of pressure equipment, piping systems, boilers, cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Assess compliance with relevant New Zealand regulations, standards and SGS quality requirements.
  • Prepare technical inspection reports and certification recommendations.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Identify and support new business opportunities.
  • Review and authorise trainee reports where appropriately qualified.
  • Assist with training and mentoring developing inspectors.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality management processes.
Qualifications

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • A Diploma, Bachelor's Degree or higher qualification in a related engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience.
  • CBIP qualifications in Pressure Equipment, and/or Cranes (highly recommended).
  • A minimum of five years' experience within industrial, manufacturing, process, petrochemical, energy or heavy engineering environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working with pressure vessels, piping systems, boilers and industrial plant inspections, piping integrity or asset management programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable New Zealand regulations, standards and inspection practices.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgement.
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach.
  • A current New Zealand driver's licence
