Community Connections in New Plymouth is seeking a compassionate Support Worker to join our 24/7 residential care team. You will help a young person with complex disabilities build independence, confidence, and life skills in a structured environment.

You will work with a supportive team, using a do-with, not-for approach, enabling choice and self-determination while respecting individual needs and communication styles.

Qualifikationen

• Legal right to work in New Zealand.
• Full New Zealand Driver Licence.
• Willingness to complete Police and Oranga Tamariki safety checks.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Good computer literacy and ability to complete required documentation.
• Ability to support an active lifestyle and community participation.
• Willingness to undertake person-specific training and orientation.
• Level 3 or 4 in Health and Wellbeing or equivalent.

Aufgaben

• Support community participation, outings, and recreational activities.
• Recognise and respond to individual sensory needs and preferences.
• Adapt your communication approach to support understanding, choice, and meaningful engagement.
• Provide calm, consistent support during periods of distress or behaviours of concern, using Positive Behaviour Support strategies.
• Support community access, including road awareness and safety.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and development of everyday living skills.
• Follow individual support plans and maintain accurate documentation.
• Receive person-specific orientation and training to understand the individual’s needs, routines, preferences, and support strategies.
