Job description

About the role

If you're an Employment Lawyer looking for a role that will genuinely broaden your experience, this is an opportunity worth exploring.

My client is a specialist employment practice with an excellent reputation in the New Zealand market. Due to continued growth and strong client demand, they are looking to add a talented lawyer at around the 3-5 year PQE level.

What makes this opportunity particularly interesting is the breadth of work. You'll gain exposure across employment advisory, litigation and transactional matters, working with sophisticated corporate and public sector clients on issues ranging from employment relations and restraints through to complex disputes and M&A transactions.

There is also significant scope to develop your advocacy experience, with opportunities to appear in employment institutions and the higher courts. You'll work closely with experienced practitioners who will give you meaningful responsibility while providing the guidance and feedback needed to accelerate your development.

Benefits

  • Broad exposure across advisory, litigation and M&A
  • Work with sophisticated corporate and public sector clients
  • Excellent advocacy and court exposure
  • Genuine investment in your career development
  • Strong workflow with no internal competition for work

Duties

  • Advise clients on complex employment issues
  • Manage employment disputes and litigation
  • Assist with corporate transactions and due diligence
  • Advise on industrial and employment relations matters
  • Negotiate settlements and represent clients at mediation
  • Develop strong, trusted client relationships

Skills & experience

To be considered for this role, you will ideally have around 3-5 years' relevant experience in employment law and/or general litigation.

The firm is also open to lawyers coming from in-house, legal or HR environments who have developed relevant experience and are looking to specialise in employment law.

You'll be commercially minded, intellectually curious and comfortable tackling unfamiliar or complex issues. Strong drafting, analytical and communication skills will be important, as will the ability to deliver high-quality work while managing competing priorities.

Above all, you'll be motivated to develop, receptive to constructive feedback and committed to providing an exceptional level of service to both clients and colleagues.

Culture

People enjoy working here because the environment combines high standards with genuine support. You'll work closely with experienced lawyers across a range of matters, with plenty of opportunity to learn, take on responsibility and receive meaningful feedback. The team is collaborative, professional and committed to doing excellent work.
