Job summary

The Opportunity

Permanent full‑time and part‑time positions are available. We are committed to addressing healthcare inequities and will provide opportunities to deepen your knowledge of Te Reo and Te Ao Māori.

Who we are

Gisborne Hospital is the primary healthcare facility for the East Coast of Aotearoa New Zealand. It is a 115‑bed teaching hospital with medical, surgical, paediatrics and women’s health services. The Emergency Department sees ~30,000 patients annually, offers a 16‑bed department, on‑site CT, MRI, ultrasound and full laboratory support. The team includes FACEMs, vocationally registered EM specialists and urgent care doctors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage acute, high acuity, and complex patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Provide EM clinical leadership as the hospital expands.
  • Participate in aeromedical retrieval, medical education and EM outreach.
  • Engage in ACEM training, supporting first‑year trainees.
Qualifications
  • Registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent.
