Position Overview

Whangārei, Northland, New Zealand. Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora offers a permanent full‑time position and a fixed‑term, full‑time role covering a period of parental leave until 5 October 2026.

About the Role

Join the enthusiastic team in our Emergency Department to improve outcomes for a high Māori, high‑needs population in a culturally rich region with scenic coastal areas. The Emergency Department serves Whangārei Hospital and our three regional hospitals in Kaitaia, Dargaville and the Bay of Islands, handling 49,000 attendances per year, 25% of which are paediatric.

Responsibilities

The role will support the department led by 21 senior medical officers, contribute to the accreditation and training programme accredited by ACEM for 24 months Advanced Training and Paediatric Logbook Training, and participate in the successful training programme for both Part1 and Part2 trainees.

Qualifications

• Specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Emergency Medicine vocational scope of practice, or eligibility for such registration.
• Assistance can be provided for overseas applicants to obtain MCNZ registration.
