Job summary

FlexWare, Auckland-based consultancy, is seeking an Electronics Engineer to work across hardware and firmware development, from concept through deployment.

Based in Mt Eden, you will design electronic hardware, develop embedded firmware, and work with wireless technologies while collaborating with a team of engineers on multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of industry experience in hardware and firmware development.
• Experience with Git for version control and collaborative development.
• Experience with wireless technologies including BLE, Wi‑Fi, Zigbee, RF.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electronic hardware solutions and PCB layouts.
• Develop and maintain embedded firmware for product applications.
• Participate in prototyping, testing, and validation across the product lifecycle.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and firmware issues.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders throughout development.
• Contribute to continuous product improvement and innovation.
• Support project delivery with effective planning and execution.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Electronics Engineer who enjoys working across both hardware and firmware development.

You’ll be involved in all stages of the product development lifecycle, including design, prototyping, testing, debugging, and continuous improvement.

Working alongside a collaborative team of engineers, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to innovative products while developing your technical expertise and expanding your involvement across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop electronic hardware solutions and PCB layouts

We offer flexibility between 0.8 and 1.0 FTE, allowing the role to be tailored to suit the successful candidate's skills and work-life balance preferences.

About You

You’re a practical problem solver who enjoys building reliable products and tackling technical challenges. You take ownership of your work, communicate effectively, and thrive in a team environment.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• A bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
• Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience preferred exceptional graduates will be considered
• 2+ Years' experience in PCB design & embedded firmware development
• Experience using Git for version control and collaborative development
• Experience working with wireless communication technologies, including BLE, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and RF
• Experience with microcontrollers such as STM32, ESP32, nRF, or similar platforms
• Experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout
• Strong C/C++ programming skills for embedded systems
• Excellent diagnostic and debugging abilities
