Job summary

Otago Polytechnic invites applications for an Electrical Trades educator to inspire and support ākonga from diverse backgrounds. You will deliver practical and theoretical skills in a culturally safe learning environment, emphasizing inclusivity and learner-centred teaching in line with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

You will lead by example, fostering confidence, attendance and success while developing curriculum, assessment and resources.

Qualifications

• Current First Aid Certificate
• Registered New Zealand Electrician
• Excellent communication skills
• Competent computer literacy skills
• Experience mentoring young people, preferably in industry-based training
• Experience working with Māori and Pasifika learners, whānau, or communities, with knowledge of te ao Māori and/or Pasifika cultures

Responsibilities

• Be a positive role model and mentor, supporting ākonga to build confidence, connection and achieve their goals
• Assess learners and report on their capability and use of new technology and tools in the Electrical Trades field
• Teach and support a diverse range of ākonga using inclusive and culturally responsive approaches
• Contribute to ākonga attendance, engagement and success, as well as course information, curriculum development, assessment, moderation, progress reporting and resource bookings
