Job description

RobLawMax Recruitment is proud to be partnering with Scanpower to recruit an Electrical Engineer - Network Planning to join their Network Division.

Scanpower is a community-owned electricity distribution business with a reputation for reliability, innovation and long-term investment in its network and people. Based in Dannevirke, this is an opportunity to join a highly respected organisation where your contribution will be visible, valued and impactful.

At the heart of this role is distribution network planning. You'll help understand future demand, model network performance, identify constraints and develop the investment and engineering solutions required to maintain a safe, reliable and future-ready network.

Alongside planning, you'll have the opportunity to remain involved across design, asset management, capital works and network operations. Unlike larger utilities where engineers can become highly specialised, Scanpower offers the chance to see projects through from identifying a network need to developing and implementing the solution.

We're particularly interested in engineers who already have practical electricity distribution network planning experience and can take ownership of core planning activities with a high degree of autonomy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Distribution network planning and development
  • Load forecasting, network modelling and analytics
  • Identifying network constraints and developing reinforcement/augmentation solutions
  • Supporting future network investment and capital works planning
  • Asset Management Plan (AMP) development
  • LV and 11kV network design
  • Asset management and lifecycle planning
  • Capital works and renewal programmes
  • Engineering standards and technical documentation
  • Assessing the impact of emerging technologies including EV charging, DER and smart network initiatives
  • Working closely with design, operations and delivery teams to take solutions from planning through to implementation
About You

You'll already have experience within electricity distribution network planning and be comfortable undertaking core planning activities with limited supervision.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • An Electrical Engineering qualification
  • Practical experience within an electricity distribution business or power systems consultancy
  • Experience in network planning, load forecasting, network modelling and/or power system studies
  • An understanding of distribution network constraints and the development of appropriate engineering solutions
  • Exposure to LV and/or 11kV distribution design
  • Experience contributing to AMP, capital planning or network development programmes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • The ability to communicate technical information clearly and work collaboratively across engineering and operational teams

You don't need to have done every aspect of the role, but you'll bring a solid foundation in distribution network planning and the capability to quickly contribute within a small, experienced team.

Why Join Scanpower?
  • Take a key role in planning the future development of a community-owned electricity network
  • Broad exposure across planning, design, asset management and network operations
  • Opportunity to see projects progress from initial network need through to implementation
  • Less bureaucracy and red tape than larger utilities
  • Genuine influence on network decisions and future investment planning
  • Supportive and experienced team environment
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Company vehicle
  • Southern Cross health insurance
  • 3% annual bonus
  • Long-term career development opportunities

For an experienced distribution engineer looking for greater ownership, broader exposure and the opportunity to directly influence how a network develops, this is a rare opportunity.
