Job summary

Arup in Auckland, New Zealand, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support Senior Electrical Engineers and Design Managers on energy and infrastructure projects, including renewable energy and offshore wind. You will contribute to concept and detailed design, calculations, documentation and reporting across pre-feasibility to detailed design.

The ideal candidate holds a recognised degree in Electrical Engineering, has relevant experience, and is progressing toward professional membership.

Qualifications

  • Holds a recognised tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Has relevant experience in electrical engineering, preferably in energy, power, utilities or infrastructure sectors.
  • Demonstrates developing capability in electrical design, calculations, technical analysis, documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to concept and detailed design for electrical infrastructure, including MV/HV substations, renewable generation, grid connections, overhead lines or underground cables.
  • Works with primary, secondary and other engineering disciplines to develop coordinated design solutions.
  • Applies NZ legislation, standards, codes and project requirements in daily work.
  • Develops familiarity with standards and processes of Transpower and New Zealand network operators.
  • Uses electrical design or analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, PowerFactory, PSS/E, PLS-CADD, CYMCAP or CDEGS).
  • Performs peer checks and seeks technical input when needed.

The primary focus of the Electrical Engineer role is to support Senior Electrical Engineers and Design Managers on energy and resource projects including renewable energy projects and electrical infrastructure projects such as offshore wind farms.

The role includes a range of electrical engineering designs, calculations, technical analyses, specification documentation, project bid preparation and reporting as part of the project delivery covering pre-feasibility studies and concept design through to detailed design.

The Opportunity
  • Contributes to concept and detailed design for electrical infrastructure, which may include MV and HV substations, renewable generation, grid connections, overhead lines or underground cables.
  • Works effectively with primary, secondary and other engineering disciplines to develop coordinated design solutions.
  • Applies relevant New Zealand legislation, standards, codes, project requirements and established engineering practices.
  • Develops familiarity with the standards and processes of Transpower, electricity distribution businesses and other New Zealand network operators.
  • Uses relevant electrical design or analysis software. Experience with one or more packages such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, PowerFactory, PSS/E, PLS-CADD, CYMCAP or CDEGS would be advantageous.
  • Checks their own work and initiates appropriate review by colleagues, senior engineers or technical specialists.
  • Undertakes peer checks when appropriately briefed and within their demonstrated area of competence.
  • Identifies when a matter is outside their experience or authority and seeks appropriate technical support.
