Onyx Recruitment is partnering with a leading Building Services consultancy to recruit a Senior Electrical Engineer based in the Waikato or Tauranga. You will lead multidisciplinary project teams, mentor engineers, and own client relationships across regional projects.

From feasibility to commissioning, you will direct complex electrical systems design, including lighting, power, security, ELV, and IT infrastructure, while shaping resourcing, fee estimates, and risk management to ensure delivery

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; professional registration desirable.
• 7+ years of NZ building services consultancy experience.
• Strong leadership, staff development and workload management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a regional team of engineers and technicians.
• Direct and manage complex electrical engineering projects across regions from feasibility to handover.
• Lead the detailed design of complex electrical systems including lighting and IT infrastructure.
• Serve as the primary contact for clients, architects, contractors and councils.
• Assist with project resourcing, fee estimates, risk management and technical reviews.

Onyx Recruitment is working with a leading, award-winning Building Services consultancy to recruit a Senior Electrical Engineer based in either the Waikato or Tauranga. This is a strategic appointment for a seasoned technical expert who brings strong people management capabilities and proven end-to-end project management experience. Operating from your choice of either the Waikato or Tauranga office, you will play a pivotal role in leading multidisciplinary project teams, mentoring intermediate and junior engineers, and taking ownership of client relationships across key regional projects.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leadership & People Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a regional team of engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
• Project Delivery: Direct and manage complex electrical engineering projects across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions from feasibility through to commissioning and handover.
• Technical Oversight: Lead the detailed design of complex electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, security, ELV, and IT infrastructure.
• Client & Stakeholder Management: Serve as a primary point of contact for local clients, architects, main contractors, and regional councils.
• Commercial Drive: Assist with project resourcing, fee estimates, risk management, and technical reviews to ensure on-time, within-budget delivery.

What We're Looking For

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). Professional registration (CPEng / CMEngNZ) is highly desirable.
• Experience: 7+ years of building services consultancy experience within New Zealand.
• Leadership: Proven track record in strong staff management, team development, and workload delegation.
• Project Experience: Demonstrated success managing and delivering medium-to-large building services projects (Commercial, Healthcare, Hospitality, or Industrial).
• Skills: Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical problem-solving abilities.
• Work Rights: Must currently reside in New Zealand with valid long-term work rights.
