Job summary

Whakatāne District Council is seeking an enthusiastic Educator - Arts & Heritage to design and deliver programmes that connect people with our art, heritage, exhibitions, collections, taonga and stories. You'll work across the Whakatāne Art Gallery and Whakatāne Museum to create engaging workshops, tours, activities and learning resources for diverse audiences.

  • Experience designing and delivering education or community programmes.
  • Strong facilitation and communication with diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of the NZ Curriculum and learning outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi.
  • Excellent planning, administration and coordination skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with iwi, hapū, artists and schools.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.
  • Collaborative and adaptable with a passion for art and heritage.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

We're looking for an enthusiastic Educator - Arts & Heritage to develop and deliver programmes and experiences that connect people with Whakatāne District's art, heritage, exhibitions, collections, taonga and stories.

Working across Te Kōputu a te Whanga a Toi - Whakatāne Art Gallery and Te Whare Taonga o Taketake - Whakatāne Museum, you'll create and deliver workshops, tours, activities, learning resources and public programmes for a wide range of audiences.

You'll work alongside iwi, hapū, artists, cultural practitioners, schools, community groups and partners to create experiences that are accessible, culturally responsive and relevant to our communities.

You're creative, organised and confident working with people, with the ability to turn ideas and stories into engaging experiences.

You'll Bring
  • Experience designing and delivering education, engagement or community programmes.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • An understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and learning outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi.
  • Strong planning, administration and coordination skills.
