Invercargill City Council is seeking an Educator for Te Unua Museum of Southland to deliver hands-on education programmes that connect students and communities with Murihiku Southland''s heritage.

You will deliver curriculum-linked programmes, develop digital resources, support exhibitions, and lead holiday programmes, fostering inclusive learning experiences for all ages.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in education or a related field.
• A strong understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum.
• Experience working in a museum, heritage, arts, or cultural environment would be advantageous.
• A genuine passion for learning, heritage, and bicultural engagement.
• A track record of delivering high-quality inclusive education programmes.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, and planning skills.
• A full NZ driver's licence and ability to meet Children\'s Worker requirements under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.

As an Educator at Te Unua Museum of Southland, you'll be delivering exceptional, hands‑on education programmes that connect students and communities to the rich history, heritage, and cultural narratives of Murihiku Southland.

No two days are the same. One day you might be delivering a curriculum‑linked programme to local students, the next developing digital learning resources, supporting an exhibition, or leading a holiday programme.

• Deliver high‑quality informal learning experiences to learners of all ages.
• Lead education outreach initiatives extending beyond the museum walls.
• Build strong relationships with local schools, kura, community groups, and mana whenua to ensure our learning opportunities are inclusive, accessible, and relevant.
• Support interpretation of the collection through curriculum‑aligned programming, contributing to our wider visitor experience.
• Collaborate across museum and Council teams to provide connected, high‑impact education services.

This is a permanent full‑time position working 40 hours per week, between the hours of 8.00am - 5.00pm Monday - Friday, both days inclusive. Start date negotiable.
