Job summary

Whakatāne District Council is seeking an enthusiastic Educator - Arts & Heritage to develop and deliver learning programmes that connect people with our region's art, heritage and taonga. You’ll design workshops and tours across Te Kōputu a te Whanga a Toi - Whakatāne Art Gallery and Te Whare Taonga o Taketake - Whakatāne Museum for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing and delivering education, engagement or community programmes.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills.
  • Understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and learning outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi.
  • Strong planning, administration and coordination skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with iwi, hapū, artists, schools and community partners.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice.
  • Collaborative and adaptable approach, with a genuine interest in art, heritage, culture and taonga.

We're looking for an enthusiastic Educator - Arts & Heritage to develop and deliver programmes and experiences that connect people with Whakatāne District's art, heritage, exhibitions, collections, taonga and stories.

Working across Te Kōputu a te Whanga a Toi - Whakatāne Art Gallery and Te Whare Taonga o Taketake - Whakatāne Museum, you'll create and deliver workshops, tours, activities, learning resources and public programmes for a wide range of audiences.

You'll work alongside iwi, hapū, artists, cultural practitioners, schools, community groups and partners to create experiences that are accessible, culturally responsive and relevant to our communities.

You're creative, organised and confident working with people, with the ability to turn ideas and stories into engaging experiences.

You'll bring:
