DKW Recruitment Group – Dunedin, South Island is seeking an experienced Fitter Welder to join a well-established Dunedin mechanical engineering company undertaking a wide variety of mechanical, fabrication, maintenance and heavy engineering work.

The successful applicant will carry out mechanical fitting, welding and fabrication, fabricate and repair components, read drawings, and work on maintenance and upgrades of industrial machinery. NZ driver's licence preferred.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Fitter Welder or similar role.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical fitting experience.
  • Proven welding and fabrication experience.
  • Competency in MIG/ARC welding; TIG is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out mechanical fitting, welding and fabrication work.
  • Fabricate, assemble, modify and repair steel components.
  • Perform MIG, ARC or TIG welding as required.
  • Cut, grind, drill and finish steel and other materials.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specs.
  • Install, maintain and repair industrial plant and machinery.
  • Dismantle, inspect and reassemble mechanical equipment.
  • Fit and replace bearings, shafts and couplings.

Job description

DKW Recruitment Group – Dunedin, South Island

We are seeking an experienced Fitter Welder to join a well-established Dunedin mechanical engineering company undertaking a wide variety of mechanical, fabrication, maintenance and heavy engineering work.

Main Responsibilities Will Include;
  • Carry out mechanical fitting, welding and fabrication work.
  • Fabricate, assemble, modify and repair steel and mechanical components.
  • Undertake welding using MIG, ARC and/or TIG processes as required.
  • Cut, grind, drill, prepare and finish steel and other materials.
  • Measure, mark out and fabricate components accurately from engineering drawings.
  • Install, maintain, repair and overhaul industrial plant and machinery.
  • Dismantle, inspect, repair and reassemble mechanical equipment.
  • Fit and replace bearings, shafts, couplings and other mechanical components.
  • Carry out breakdown repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with plant shutdowns, equipment upgrades and installation projects.
  • Repair worn or damaged machinery and components through fitting, welding or fabrication.
  • Work with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment where required.
  • Carry out equipment alignment, adjustment and testing.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, plans and technical specifications.
  • Operate welding equipment, grinders, cutting equipment, drills, power tools and general engineering equipment.
  • Complete both workshop-based fabrication and onsite installation, maintenance and repair work.
  • Ensure all welding, fabrication and mechanical work is completed accurately and to a high standard.
  • Follow all workplace and site health and safety requirements.
Skills & Experience

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Proven experience as a Fitter Welder, Maintenance Fitter/Welder, Mechanical Fitter/Welder, Fabricator Welder or similar.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical fitting experience.
  • Proven welding and fabrication experience.
  • Competency in MIG and/or ARC welding, with TIG experience advantageous.
  • Experience working with industrial machinery, plant and mechanical equipment.
  • Good fabrication, cutting, grinding, fitting and assembly skills.
  • Experience with bearings, shafts, couplings, pumps, motors and/or gearboxes advantageous.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems advantageous.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience undertaking breakdown and preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Ability to accurately measure, mark out and fabricate components to specification.
  • Confidence using general engineering, welding and mechanical fitting equipment.
  • Relevant mechanical fitting, welding, fabrication or engineering trade qualification preferred.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full NZ driver's licence preferred.
