Job summary

Encounter Kaikoura is hiring seasonal guides to deliver safe, memorable tours along a very exposed coastline. You will welcome guests, provide clear safety briefings, and offer engaging wildlife commentary while complying with procedures in changing sea conditions.

Role requires endurance for long shifts, outdoor work in all weather, and a proactive, team-oriented approach. Visa-ready candidates committed to full contract periods are invited to apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in customer-facing tourism, hospitality, outdoor recreation, or marine environments.
• Passion for the marine environment and high energy customer care.
• Strong safety mindset with ability to follow procedures and remain alert.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and on moving vessels.
• Physically capable for long shifts, lifting, and standing.
• Ability to learn detailed safety procedures and tour commentary.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, professional tours and engaging commentary.
• Welcome, inform, and support guests throughout the journey.
• Conduct safety briefings and use clear safety instructions.
• Assist with loading/unloading and managing swimmers and watchers.
• Complete pre-departure checks and end-of-day procedures.
• Collaborate with skippers, guides, and service teams for smooth operations.
• Participate in land-based days for gear maintenance and operations.
• Maintain high reliability, punctuality, and consistent service.
