Job summary

IDEA Services in Auckland West is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to empower people with intellectual disabilities at home and in the community. You will support daily living, personal care, advocacy, and meaningful activities while building independence and safety.

Ideal applicants have a genuine desire to help others, flexibility to work varied rosters, and strong communication skills. A NZ driver's licence is required; computer/tablet use is common for notes and updates.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to use computers and tablets for daily notes and communication.
• Flexible, patient and respectful approach to care and support.

Responsibilities

• Build independence by helping with daily living skills, transport, and meals.
• Assist with personal care routines, showering, dressing and medications.
• Encourage engagement in interests, hobbies and personal goals.
• Support healthy choices and overall wellbeing for each person.
• Provide calm, consistent support with behaviour management when needed.
• Strengthen connections with whānau, staff and the wider community.
• Rostered shifts including mornings, evenings, overnight sleepovers and weekends.
• Support individuals with complex or challenging behaviours using positive approaches (training provided).
• Record notes and communicate using computers/tablets.
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and meet physical requirements.
