Job summary

WM New Zealand seeks a visionary Head of Environmental Engineering & Consenting in Auckland to lead regulatory consenting, environmental engineering projects, and stakeholder engagement. You will drive compliance with NZ environmental legislation and advance sustainable infrastructure initiatives.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a passion for transforming environmental outcomes across landfill and waste disposal operations.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in New Zealand environmental engineering and consenting.
• Strong knowledge of NZ RMA processes and resource consent applications.
• Familiarity with NZ environmental legislation and planning frameworks.
• Experience obtaining, interpreting, and monitoring resource consents.
• Solid understanding of landfill engineering and waste disposal operations.
• Experience with environmental impact assessment (EIA) methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire a team of environmental engineers and consenting specialists.
• Champion strategic initiatives to advance environmental engineering capabilities and consent processes.
• Oversee environmental aspects of landfill and waste disposal operations.
• Direct preparation and submission of resource consent applications.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with existing resource consents.
• Build relationships with regulatory agencies and local authorities.
• Oversee delivery of EIAs and environmental management plans.
• Establish quality standards for environmental work and documentation.
• Monitor regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
• Strategically manage budgets, timelines, and resources.
• Mentor team members and foster career development.
• Collaborate across departments to integrate environmental considerations.
