Job summary

Stellar Recruitment partners with an established environmental and engineering consultancy to appoint a Principal Engineer in Auckland. You will lead delivery of complex water, wastewater and stormwater projects, providing high-level technical leadership and growing capability across NZ.

You will mentor engineers, engage with iwi and mātauranga Māori, and shape the firm's three waters strategy while maintaining strong client relationships in a collaborative, non-hierarchical environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Environmental) is required.
• Chartered Professional Engineer status is required.
• 15+ years of three waters engineering experience.
• Strong design, risk management and contract-management skills.
• Established NZ networks with councils and consultants.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level technical leadership across three waters projects.
• Lead and manage project teams to deliver quality, sustainable outcomes.
• Prepare, review, and release technical deliverables and design documentation.
• Grow and maintain key client relationships across New Zealand.
• Support the directors with engineering reviews and engineer-to-contract roles.
• Contribute to the strategic development of the firm's engineering services and capability.
• Promote water-sensitive design, climate adaptation, and sustainability principles.
• Mentor and support engineers across experience levels in a collaborative environment.
• Engage meaningfully with iwi, hapū, and mātauranga Māori across relevant projects.
