Job summary

Sourced IT Recruitment is seeking a hands-on DevSecOps engineer for a Christchurch-based 9-month fixed-term contract.

You will design, build, test and maintain automation across AWS, GCP, VMware and networking, using GitHub Actions and Terraform, with scripting in Python/PowerShell/TypeScript. The role focuses on automating security practices, improving workflows, and collaborating with engineering teams from Christchurch.

Job description

• Hands-on DevSecOps role working across AWS, GCP, VMware and GitHub Actions.
• 9 month FTC, Christchurch based.

Build practical automation across cloud, infrastructure, CI/CD, networking and security in a hands-on Christchurch DevSecOps role.

What our client can offer

This opportunity offers a broad engineering remit across cloud, infrastructure, automation and security-aware delivery. You will work with established engineering teams across multiple technology areas and contribute to practical improvements. The role has a strong focus on automation, maintainability and reducing manual work. You will have scope to improve DevSecOps practices, reusable workflows and engineering standards. The role is fully office-based in Christchurch, with minimal travel and occasional out-of-hours work.

What you will do

• Design, build, test and maintain automation across AWS, GCP, VMware, HPE VME, networking and infrastructure environments.
• Develop and improve CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions and GitHub Runners, alongside Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
• Build automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript or TypeScript and integrate platforms through APIs, SDKs, CLIs and webhooks.
• Support cloud operations, VMware migration, network automation, reporting, remediation and operational tasks.
• Improve existing scripts and workflows while contributing to documentation, security controls, audit evidence, reusable DevSecOps patterns and engineering standards.
• The role will also require some out-of-hours work, including occasional weekend work, where activities need to be completed during maintenance or migration windows.

Skills and experience we are looking for

• Strong software development, automation engineering or DevSecOps experience.
• Practical experience with GitHub for source control and collaborative development.
• Experience with GitHub Actions and GitHub Runners for CI/CD automation.
• Experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
• Strong scripting and development skills in one or more of Bash, PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Practical experience automating cloud or infrastructure tasks across AWS, GCP, VMware, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with cloud operational activities such as provisioning, IAM, tagging, reporting, access reviews, remediation, and housekeeping.
• Familiarity with virtualisation platforms, preferably VMware or HPE VME, and the ability to automate common operational tasks.
• Familiarity with software design principles, reusable components, testing, logging, documentation, and maintainable code practices.
• Experience building internal tools, automation services, scripts, pipeline tasks, or integration utilities.
• Experience integrating systems using APIs, SDKs, CLIs, webhooks, or event-driven patterns.
• Experience with Git-based development workflows, including branching, pull requests, peer review, and release practices.
• Understanding of Linux and/or Windows operational environments.
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals and network automation concepts.
• Understanding of CI/CD practices, reusable workflow patterns, and secure pipeline design.
• Awareness of DevSecOps principles and secure delivery practices.
• Exposure to security tooling or practices such as SAST, dependency scanning, secrets scanning, container scanning, policy-as-code, or compliance checks.
• Understanding of least privilege, secure configuration, auditability, and evidence collection.
• Ability to work independently, document clearly, and hand over solutions that can be supported by BAU teams.
