Job summary

Regional Ports NZ Dredging is recruiting a General Purpose Hand to support the Kapuka dredge in Dunedin, with three months per year visiting Napier. You’ll work alongside the Master, Mate and Chief Engineer to maintain the vessel, plant and equipment and keep port operations running smoothly for local communities.

Ideal candidates will have marine industry experience, SRL, VHF certificate and STCW certification, plus a strong safety mindset and team spirit.

Qualifications

Marine industry experience relevant to dredging operations.
Skipper Restricted Limits (SRL) certification.
Maritime VHF Operator’s Certificate.
STCW Basic Safety Training or equivalent.
Recognised swimming/sea survival competency.
Seafarer Certificate of Medical Fitness.
Barge handling and towage experience is an advantage.
WorkSafe licenses such as dogman, rigging, slewing crane operation preferred.
Ability to work well in a team and respond to operational needs outside hours.
Good physical fitness and safety-minded attitude.
Passion for Health & Safety and strong safety standards.

Responsibilities

Assist Master, Mate and Chief Engineer to keep the dredge running safely and efficiently.
Look after dredge plant and equipment to keep ports open for ships and communities.
Work as part of a close-knit crew with a hands-on, varied role.
Support operations across Otago Harbour and Hawke’s Bay as needed.
