Job summary

Synechron is seeking an experienced Data Test Engineer in Auckland, NZ, with strong knowledge of data warehousing, ETL processes, SQL, and data validation methodologies. The role involves designing and executing tests for data pipelines, validating data integrity, and collaborating with data engineers and stakeholders across cloud platforms.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on data testing experience, expertise in SCDs and data reconciliation, and a solid background in Agile/Scrum delivery

Qualifications

• Hands-on data testing and validation experience.
• Strong ETL and data warehousing knowledge.
• Familiar with SCDs, audit columns and data reconciliation.
• SQL proficiency with complex queries and validation checks.
• Experience with batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Exposure to Databricks, Snowflake, Azure or AWS.
• Understanding of data quality, defect management and testing methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum delivery in banking/financial services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and execute test scenarios for data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehouses.
• Validate data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and transformation logic.
• Perform source-to-target data validation and reconciliation.
• Test Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD Types 1 and 2), audit columns, incremental loads, and historical data.
• Develop and execute complex SQL queries for data testing and analysis.
• Identify, document, and track data defects through to resolution.
• Collaborate with data engineers, developers, business analysts, and stakeholders.
• Support testing across modern data platforms and cloud-based data pipelines.
• Prepare test cases, test results, defect reports, and validation documentation.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Hands-on experience in data testing and data validation.
• Strong understanding of ETL processes and data warehousing concepts.
• Practical knowledge of SCDs, audit columns, data mapping, and data reconciliation.
• Strong SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, subqueries, and validation queries.
• Experience testing batch and/or real-time data pipelines.
• Exposure to modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, or AWS.
• Good understanding of data quality, defect management, and testing methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with Databricks or other cloud-based data platforms.
• Familiarity with automation tools and Agile/Scrum delivery.
• Previous experience working with ASB or in banking/financial services environments.
