Job summary

One New Zealand is embarking on becoming the most AI-enabled telco in the region. We are seeking a People Data Governance & Architecture Lead for a 12-month fixed term to shape our data strategy and governance across the workforce.

You will define ownership, standards, and controls to ensure trusted, scalable data foundations for future AI initiatives. Working across People, Technology and the wider business, you will drive data quality, manage privacy-sensitive data, and build data products to

• Experience developing data strategy and governance frameworks for Privacy-sensitive or compliance-controlled data.
• Ability to define clear data ownership, standards, controls, and data quality practices.
• Strong ability to translate complex data landscapes into clear, actionable plans.

Responsibilities

• Develop & implement a People Data Strategy and roadmap, defining target state data architecture and standards.
• Establish people data governance frameworks & lifecycle management, data quality controls and reliability improvements.
• Define data ownership, standards, controls for all job and employee data.
• Assess readiness for AI-enabled workforce capability from a people data perspective and define requirements.
• Create data products for the people function to support future AI capability and automation opportunities.
• Partner across the business to build understanding of people data governance and security.

Ko tō tūranga – your role

As People Data Governance & Architecture Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of trusted people data at One NZ. In this 12‑month fixed term opportunity, you will lead the development of our people data strategy, governance and architecture, helping to simplify a complex data landscape and build a more connected, scalable foundation for the Future of Work.

Working across People, Technology and the wider business, you will define the standards, ownership and controls that make people data reliable, consistent and ready for what is next. This is an exciting role for someone who enjoys turning complexity into clarity, improving data quality and enabling future AI, automation and optimisation opportunities that will help One NZ grow, lead and plan for the future.

Ko Tō Mahi – What You’ll Do

• Develop & implement a People Data Strategy and roadmap, defining our target state data architecture and standards along with assessing our current people data assets, systems and workflows.
• Establish people data governance frameworks & lifecycle management, implement data quality controls and improve consistency and reliability of workforce data
• Establish clear data ownership, standards and controls for all job and employee data
• Assess organisational readiness for AI enabled workforce capability from a people data perspective, defining requirements for structured, trusted & scalable workforce data
• Create the people function’s Data Products; design and structure people data to support future AI capability, identify and prioritise high value automation and analytic opportunities
• Partner across the business to build organisational understanding of people data governance and security.

• Strong understanding of data architecture and complex environments
• Experience developing or implementing data strategy and governance frameworks for Privacy-sensitive or compliance-controlled data.
• Ability to define clear data ownership, standards, controls, and data quality practices
• Confidence working across People, HR, Technology and wider business teams to connect data, process and systems
• Experience identifying opportunities for data optimisation, automation and future AI readiness
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to work with data, systems and reporting to improve insight and consistency
• Clear stakeholder communication skills, with the confidence to influence, simplify complexity and build alignment
