We are seeking an experienced Data Platform & Analytics Engineer to develop and continually improve our Databricks Enterprise data platform. Working within the Business Intelligence team, you will engineer robust, scalable and well-governed data transformation pipelines using Databricks and dbt, delivering trusted datasets for reporting, analytics and operational decision-making.

This is an engineering-focused role, with occasional support for reporting and insights development where required. You will work closely with BI Developers, Data Analysts and Technology teams to establish engineering standards and best practices that enable our analytical capability to scale sustainably.

Success in this role will be measured through the quality, reliability, maintainability and performance of the data models, transformation pipelines and reporting datasets delivered through the Databricks platform and Power BI environment

  • Develop and maintain data transformation pipelines using dbt within Databricks.
  • Design and implement scalable ELT solutions using the Databricks Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver and Gold).
  • Integrate data from multiple operational systems into a governed enterprise data warehouse.
  • Build, optimise and support trusted enterprise data models using dimensional modelling best practices, including fact tables, dimension tables and conformed dimensions.
  • Develop reusable, well-tested and documented transformation logic using dbt tests and other appropriate data quality frameworks.
  • Optimise advanced SQL transformations for performance, scalability and maintainability.
  • Implement incremental processing strategies and optimise Delta Lake performance.
  • Ensure datasets are accurate, complete and aligned with business requirements through reconciliation and validation against source systems.
  • Investigate and resolve data quality issues and transformation failures.
  • Monitor data pipeline performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support the ongoing development of the enterprise semantic data layer.
  • Play a key role in migrating existing Power BI transformation logic into Databricks.
  • Partner with BI Developers, Data Analysts and Technology teams to provide trusted, analytics-ready datasets for reporting and analysis.
  • Contribute to engineering standards and reusable patterns through code reviews, technical advice, documentation, knowledge sharing and informal mentoring.

You will be an experienced Data Engineer with commercial experience delivering modern data solutions in enterprise or cloud environments. You will bring strong technical capability, sound judgement and a commitment to developing reliable, maintainable and well-governed data products.

  • Strong experience developing data transformation pipelines using dbt (Data Build Tool) or an equivalent framework.
  • Advanced SQL development skills, including complex transformations, query optimisation and performance tuning.
  • Proven experience building enterprise data warehouses and cloud-based ELT pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of dimensional data modelling, including star schemas, fact tables, dimension tables and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Practical understanding of Delta Lake, Medallion Architecture and layered data platforms.
  • Experience working with Azure data services and modern cloud data warehousing technologies
  • Working knowledge of Python for data engineering and automation.
  • Experience implementing data quality testing, reconciliation, validation and monitoring processes.
  • Experience using Git, CI/CD and version-controlled development practices.
  • An understanding of how to develop trusted, analytics-ready datasets for Power BI and other reporting tools.
  • Ability to work independently under broad direction and exercise sound technical judgement. Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering reliable, tested, maintainable and well-documented solutions.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience in data engineering, computer science, information systems or a related discipline.
