Job description

Are you a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer or technically minded data professional looking for your next opportunity? Want to build your skills across data engineering, analytics, cloud and AI while working with a varied mix of clients and projects? This is your chance to join MBM as a Data & Intelligence Engineer.

MBM is one of New Zealand’s leading media agencies, combining media, digital, data and technology to help clients make smarter decisions and deliver better results. Our Data & Analytics team builds practical solutions that turn complex data into something useful.

About The Role

You’ll work within MBM’s Data & Analytics team, helping develop the data solutions that underpin reporting, analytics and decision-making across the agency and our clients.

The role spans data pipelines, integrations, reporting solutions and cloud platforms. Using tools such as Python and SQL, you’ll bring together data from different sources, build and maintain reliable pipelines and APIs, and help create reporting and analytics solutions for both MBM and its clients.

You’ll work across a range of client and agency projects, with the chance to contribute ideas, experiment with new approaches and see the solutions you build being used in practice. You’ll also work closely with internal stakeholders and clients, giving you plenty of opportunity to understand different business challenges and translate technical ideas into practical solutions.

As MBM continues to grow its capability across AI, automation and advanced analytics, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in new and emerging areas while developing your skills over time. We’re not looking for someone who already knows everything. If you have a strong foundation, enjoy building things and are keen to keep learning, there’s plenty of scope to grow in the role.

About you

We’re open to a range of backgrounds. You might be early in your data engineering career, currently working in an analytics or technical data role, or coming from a strong computer science background and ready for your next step.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • A solid foundation in Python and general coding fundamentals
  • Experience with SQL, or the technical ability and interest to develop your SQL skills quickly
  • Exposure to data pipelines, integrations, APIs or ETL/ELT processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an interest in building practical data solutions
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Curiosity and a genuine interest in data, automation and AI
  • Experience in media, marketing or digital environments would be a bonus, but it’s not essential

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone with a good technical base who enjoys learning and is confident working with people across the business. If you’re passionate about the space but don’t tick every box, we’d still love to hear from you.

Our offer to you

You’ll be supported by an experienced Data & Analytics team, with plenty of opportunity to learn through hands‑on work, collaboration and formal development. You’ll also have the chance to build your capability across cloud data engineering, analytics, automation and AI while working on a genuinely varied mix of projects.

Whether you’re already working in data engineering or have the right technical foundation and are ready to grow, we’d love to hear from you.
