Job summary

Tourism New Zealand is seeking a data analyst to develop and maintain reporting, dashboards, and data workflows that combine tourism and organisational datasets.

You will translate data into visual, story-led insights for internal teams, government stakeholders and the wider industry, supporting planning and government reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher in Data Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least two years’ experience in data analysis, analytics reporting or similar role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain reporting and dashboards across tourism datasets.
  • Identify trends, risks, opportunities, and outliers.
  • Translate data into visual, story-led insights for internal teams and government stakeholders.
  • Support business planning, government reporting, and ad-hoc business questions.
  • Collaborate with Head of Business Planning and Performance and insights team.
  • Ensure data quality and improve reporting efficiency using Power BI, SQL and AI tools.

Job description

  • Develop and maintain reporting, dashboards, data flows and performance tracking tools combining tourism and organisational datasets
  • Identify trends, risks, opportunities and outliers
  • Translate data into simple, visual and story-led insights for internal teams, government stakeholders and the wider industry
  • Support business planning, government reporting and responses to specific business questions
  • Use Power BI, SQL and approved AI-enabled analytics tools to improve reporting efficiency, data quality, pattern identification and insight generation
  • Work closely with the Head of Business Planning and Performance and the wider insights team
Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Analytics or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • At least two years’ experience in data analysis, analytics reporting, performance insights or a similar role
  • Strong experience with SQL and Power BI, including developing and maintaining dashboards, reporting datasets, reusable data models or semantic layers
  • Experience with Python and/or R preferred
  • Strong knowledge of data mining, warehousing, processing, data visualisation and reporting principles
  • Ability to gather, blend and interpret data from multiple sources and turn analysis into practical recommendations
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to make insights simple, visual and meaningful for different audiences
  • Confidence using AI-enabled analytics or productivity tools to support analysis, reporting, automation or documentation
  • Creative, detail-focused and flexible approach, with sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills and willingness to keep learning
