Job summary

South Taranaki District Council is seeking a Data and AI Engineer on a two‑year fixed‑term contract to design, build and maintain data platforms, integrations and reporting solutions. You will work across data engineering, BI and AI to deliver secure, governed data and AI‑ready datasets, partnering with stakeholders to enable informed decisions across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data analytics or a related field.
• Strong SQL and Microsoft Power BI skills, including data modelling, reporting and dashboard development.
• Experience developing data pipelines, integrations and reporting solutions; understanding of data quality, governance and security principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain data platforms, integrations and reporting solutions underpinning informed decision‑making.
• Develop scalable data pipelines, ETL processes, system integrations and enterprise reporting using SQL, Azure, APIs and Power BI.
• Ensure data security, governance, privacy and compliance across solutions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver AI‑ready datasets and data products to support analytics and automation.
