New Zealand Police's NZ Financial Intelligence Unit is seeking a Data Engineer to uplift the data environment in Wellington or Auckland. You will work with analysts, scientists and ICT specialists to improve data flows, governance, and capabilities for advanced analytics and AI initiatives.

This fixed-term role runs through 30 June 2027. The successful candidate will design standards, reduce technical debt, and enable scalable data solutions while transferring capability to the permanent team.

Qualifications

• Strong SQL, XML, data engineering experience.
• Experience designing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Knowledge of cloud and enterprise data environments.
• Experience with data modelling, governance and quality frameworks.
• Experience supporting analytics and reporting platforms.

Responsabilités

• Data Platform Improvement - assess and document current data environment, identify risks and improvements.
• Data Engineering and Automation - develop, optimise, and maintain data pipelines for reliability and scalability.
• Technical Standards and Governance - establish coding, documentation, and development standards; improve data quality and metadata.
• Enable Advanced Analytics - ensure data structures support BI, analytics, modelling, and AI initiatives, partner with data scientists.
• Capability Transfer - create documentation and knowledge products; build team capability for sustainable operations.
