Job summary

Watercare Services Ltd invites applications for a Dam Technician role, overseeing operations and maintenance around headworks to safeguard Auckland’s water supply. The position is hands-on, outdoors, and requires comfort with water environments and practical problem solving.

Qualifications

  • Must have a current full New Zealand driver’s license.
  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering or Science is helpful but not essential.
  • Experience in a similar environment with a focus on safety around water.
  • Comfortable using computer-based systems and databases.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain critical headworks structures to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Contribute to keeping water supply systems running through clear communications and operational support.
  • Maintain the hydrological network to meet performance standards and inform decision-making.

As a Dam Technician, you’ll spend your time out in some of the region’s most impressive natural environments, working on and around dams. This is a hands‑on role where your confidence in outdoor settings and around water, combined with your technical skills, will help you succeed.

In this role, you will:

  • Operate and maintain critical headworks structures to ensure they remain safe and reliable
  • Play a key part in keeping our water supply systems running smoothly through clear communication and operational support
  • Help maintain our hydrological network, ensuring it meets performance standards and supports informed decision-making

This is a role where no two days are the same, and where your work directly contributes to something essential for Aucklanders.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in practical, hands‑on work, and feels confident working in and around water environments.

You’ll bring:

  • A current full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • Ideally, a tertiary qualification in Engineering or Science (helpful, but not essential)
  • Experience working in a similar environment, with a strong focus on safety around water
  • Confidence using computer-based systems and databases

You’ll also be:

  • A strong problem solver who can think on your feet
  • Comfortable working independently, while also contributing to a supportive, close-knit team
  • Reliable, practical, and motivated to deliver high-quality work
