Job summary

ARG Farms Limited in Waihi, New Zealand, is seeking Farm Assistants to help the farm manager. Early morning starts and outdoor work in varying weather. No prior experience required; training will be provided. Great team environment, safety footwear and uniform supplied, weekly pay, and a guaranteed 30 hours per week.

Role includes milking, effluent management, cattle care, feed planning, and general farm maintenance. Be ready to work in all conditions and follow farm policies and safety rules.

Qualifications

• Driving licence required or Equivalent.
• Pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Reliability: you turn up for work every day and are counted on by your team.
• Demonstrate strong work ethics.
• Punctuality: arrive on time for work.

Responsibilities

• Milking: bring cows in shed for milking morning and afternoon; ensure hygiene and somatic cell count targets.
• Effluent: operate and maintain effluent system per council requirements and company standards; maintain records.
• Animals: assist with calving, wintering, and calf rearing; maintain herd records; report unwell animals.
• Feed production management: assist with feed planning and weed/pest management; apply fertilizer and irrigation.
• Business: assist to manage repairs and maintenance for farm vehicles and machinery; adhere to policies.
• Health and safety: comply with safety requirements and wear PPE.
• Environment: work within best practice environmental guidelines.

Milking

• - Bring cows in shed for milking in morning and afternoon.
• - Ensure the effective operation of all aspects of the milking process, including plant hygieneand somatic cell count, to maintain grade free standards.

Effluent

• - Operate and maintain the effluent system on your farm to all regional council compliancerequirements and the employer's additional standards
• - Maintain all appropriate effluent management records
• - Know what to do when things go wrong.

Animals

• - Implement animal health programme to maintain good health
• - Assist with calving, wintering, and the calf rearing programme to achieve minimal losses andensure high quality replacements are available for the her.
• - Ensure all herd records are maintained
• - Report any incidents of unwell animals to Farm Manager.

Feed Production Management

• - Assist with any feed planning or the management of as appropriate
• - Assist to manage weeds and pests to maintain pasture and crops.
• - Applying fertilizer and implement irrigation requirements.

Business

• - Work with the Dairy Farm Manager to contribute to Farm Business Plan
• - Assist to manage repairs and maintenance schedule for all farm vehicles, plant & machinery, and infrastructure.
• - Ensure all relevant company policies are understood and adhered to.

Health and Safety

• - Comply with health and safety requirements and adhere to the policies and procedures.
• - Meet the above requirement by wearing all personal protective equipment (PPE).

Environment

• - Assist to work within best practice environmental guidelines.
