Job summary

Whitestone Contracting is seeking an experienced Cyclic Operator to join our road maintenance team in Oamaru. You will work hands-on across our network, operating a range of plant and carrying out programmed maintenance to keep roads, culverts and shoulders safe and well maintained.

The role requires experience in road maintenance or civil construction, confidence in operating plant, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, either alone or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, graders, loaders, excavators, rollers, water carts and other plant.
• Road shoulder maintenance, grading and reinstatement.
• Clean and maintain drains, water tables and culverts.
• Pothole and minor pavement repairs.
• Road sweeping and general road maintenance.
• Assist with roadside vegetation and road furniture maintenance.
• Identify road defects and report maintenance requirements.
• Work safely around live traffic and moving plant.
• Complete daily records, pre-starts and other paperwork.
• Work as part of a team while also being confident working independently.

Are you an experienced plant operator looking for a role where no two days are the same? Join the Whitestone Contracting Road Maintenance team as a Cyclic Operator.

This is a hands‑on role working across our road maintenance network, carrying out programmed maintenance to keep roads, shoulders, drains, culverts and roadside areas safe and well maintained.

Your days will be varied and may include:

• Operating trucks, graders, loaders, excavators, rollers, water carts and other plant
• Road shoulder maintenance, grading and reinstatement
• Cleaning and maintaining drains, water tables and culverts
• Pothole and minor pavement repairs
• Road sweeping and general road maintenance
• Assisting with roadside vegetation and road furniture maintenance
• Identifying road defects and reporting maintenance requirements
• Working safely around live traffic and moving plant
• Completing daily records, pre‑starts and other required paperwork
• Working as part of a team while also being confident working independently

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Experienced in road maintenance, civil construction or a similar environment
• Confident operating plant and equipment
• Safety focused and takes pride in doing a job properly
• Reliable, practical and hardworking
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• A good communicator who is professional when dealing with customers and the public

A Class 2, 4 or 5 license would be an advantage, along with plant operating experience, traffic management experience or relevant qualifications.
