Job summary

New Zealand Government, Department of Corrections in Mt Eden, Auckland, is seeking Corrections Officers. Mō te tūnga | About the role

A Corrections Officer works in a challenging environment supported by a team of professional colleagues. You will engage with people in a positive way and will have the opportunity to not only change the lives of the people in Prison but also whānau by influencing change through your interactions. You will spend much of your time working within the unit(s) supervising people in Prison with their daily routines, escorting them around the site to education programmes or other appointments. You will monitor, assess, and manage behaviour and safety, help control and lessen any conflict within the unit(s).

This Corrections Officer role is based in Mt Eden, Auckland.

Our prisons operate 24/7 - applicants must be able to work shifts on a rotating roster. In line with our Strategy Hōkai Rangi, we are prioritising applications from people who have experience in a Kaupapa Māori or Pasifika environment and/or a willingness to learn. The starting salary for this position is $70,019 per annum. Once in the role there are opportunities to increase your salary as you achieve national qualifications (Level 3 at $74,697, Level 3+ at $76,697, Level 4 at $80,213 and Level 4+ at $82,213).
