Job summary

Deloitte New Zealand in Auckland is seeking an Economics Consultant to join our Strategy practice. You will deliver quantitative analysis, economic modelling, and policy insights to public and private sector clients, helping them make evidence-based decisions.

You will work with a collaborative team across New Zealand and global networks, mentor junior staff, and contribute to proposals, client presentations, and market development.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in Economics, Data Science, Public Policy, or related discipline.
• 2–3 years' experience in economic consulting, policy, government, or related analytical environment.
• Ability to manage workstreams and deliver high-quality, client-ready outputs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Support client engagements through quantitative analysis, research, report writing, and economic modelling including macroeconomic forecasting, CGE, Cost-Benefit Analysis, Input-Output modelling, and econometric analysis.
• Contribute to development of proposals, presentations, and client-facing materials.
• Support business development, thought leadership, and marketing for Economic Advisory practice.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders through interviews, workshops, presentations, and surveys.
• Provide guidance, mentoring, and QA support to junior team members.
• Collaborate with colleagues across Deloitte to deliver impactful outcomes for clients.

Our Strategy practice is looking for an Economics Consultant to join our Auckland office! Deloitte's Strategy team helps public and private sector organisations make confident decisions about the future through evidence-based insights and strategic advice. We work across a diverse range of engagements spanning policy development and implementation, economic forecasting, modelling, business case development and strategic advisory. Our team supports clients in navigating complex policy and strategy challenges, delivering impactful outcomes for organisations, communities, and the economy.

We are looking for a Consultant to join our team and contribute to high-impact projects, build trusted client relationships, and collaborate with colleagues across Deloitte's New Zealand and global network.

Your typical day will include:

• Supporting client engagements through quantitative analysis, research, report writing, and economic modelling, including macroeconomic forecasting, Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling, Cost Benefit Analysis, Input-Output modelling, and econometric analysis.
• Contributing to the development of proposals, presentations, and other client-facing materials.
• Supporting business development, thought leadership, and marketing initiatives that strengthen and grow the Economic Advisory practice.
• Engaging with clients and stakeholders through interviews, workshops, presentations, and surveys.
• Providing guidance, mentoring, and quality assurance support to junior team members.
• Collaborating with colleagues across Deloitte to bring together multidisciplinary insights and deliver impactful outcomes for clients.

Enough about us, let's talk about you. You are ideally someone with:

• A postgraduate qualification in Economics, Data Science, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
• Approximately 2-3 years' experience in economic consulting, policy, government, or a related analytical environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage workstreams and deliver high-quality, client-ready outputs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and apply sound judgement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging and presenting to a range of stakeholders.
• A collaborative mindset and a willingness to support, coach, and develop others.
• A genuine interest in economics and public policy, with a desire to create meaningful impact.
• Strong initiative, accountability, and a proactive approach to professional growth and development.
