Job summary

CCS Disability Action is seeking a Community Support Worker to assist disabled people and whānau in the Far North (Kaitaia) to live independently and participate in their community.

Support is tailored to each Personal Plan, promoting confidence, skills, and inclusion within family and wider community. The role may involve physical tasks and requires a flexible approach and cultural sensitivity.

Qualifications

• Requires passion for empowering disabled people and their whānau.
• Flexibility in hours to meet client needs.
• Must have transport to travel to clients' homes.
• Experience with Youth is advantageous.
• Experience providing one-to-one support in the community preferred.
• Willingness to undertake training in disability support.

Job description

CCS Disability Action's vision is to see every disabled person/whānau hauā interwoven into the lives of their whānau and community.

We are the largest pan-disability support and advocacy organisation in New Zealand. Since 1935, we have been at the forefront of service provision, advocacy, and information sharing, working closely with disabled people / whānau hauā and their families across New Zealand.

We are looking for Community Support Workers to work with people with disabilities and their families we support in the Far North (Kaitaia) in the community. The support that you will be required to provide will vary. Some of the work will be physical.

About the role:

The goal is to ensure that disabled people can live in their own homes and participate in their own community by accessing opportunitiees of their choosing as detailed in their Personal Plan. The support provided will promote confidence, skill building, independence, quality of life and inclusion within the family / whanau and the wider community.

As a Community Support Worker, you will:

• Ensure disabled people have the ability to reach their identified goals in an enabling, culturally respectful and unobtrusive manner.
• That the support work is driven by the person we support individual Personal Plan.
• That the service delivery is creative, flexible, and responsive to the needs of the disabled person and in line with CCS Disability Actions values and mandates.

With the support of our organisation, you'll:

• Ensure that disabled people are supported in making their own decisions and can participate to the best of their ability within their own communities.
• Provide empowering, competent, and respectful support consistent with the cultural values of the individual, and his or her whanau.
• Provide support which encourages and facilitates the individual's inclusion in their family / whanau and wider community
• Ensure communities are aware and are more inclusive of disabled people and their families/whanau.

We are looking for people who:

• Have a passion for enabling others to lead good lives
• Have flexibility in the hours you can work
• Access to transportation to get to and from work
• A minimum of 1 years' experience working alongside Youth would be an advantage
• Experience providing one to one support in the community is preferred but not essential
• Have a Health Care Assistant Qualification or a Level 2 or 3 equivalent or experience working in the Disability sector, or a willingness to undertake training
