Job summary

Whānau Āwhina Plunket in the Wellington region seeks a Community Service Coordinator to connect tamariki and whānau with local services. The 32-hour hybrid role involves engaging with communities, building relationships with stakeholders, and supporting volunteers running groups and in-home initiatives.

You will gather insights, raise the organisation's profile at events, and ensure culturally safe practice, with occasional weekend or evening work and a focus on Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.

Whānau Āwhina Plunket is the largest service in Aotearoa supporting tamariki under-five and their whānau. As well as clinical support, we’re also here to connect caregivers with services that support holistic health and wellbeing and access to helpful services to form meaningful connections.

Supporting the Hutt Valleycommunities, this a permanent hybrid 32 hour a week role. The role involves some rural travel along with occasional evening or weekend work.

Community Service Coordinators are at the helm of understanding what our whānau are seeking as well as the services available in your community. This involves:

• Gathering insights internally and externally about existing services and to identify opportunities in your community.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
• Raising the profile of Whānau Āwhina Plunket at relevant community events.
• Recruiting, onboarding and communicating with our volunteers who run groups, provide in home support and other important initiatives.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Community Service Coordinators are at the helm of understanding what our whānau are seeking as well as the services available in your community. This involves:

• Establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
• Raising the profile of Whānau Āwhina Plunket at relevant community events.
• Recruiting, onboarding and communicating with our volunteers who run groups, provide in home support and other important initiatives.

A key organisational goal is to ensure honour and uphold our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and focus on providing better access to our services to our priority communities - Māori, Pacific Peoples, Young parents, children in state care Rainbow whānau and those living rurally. In conjunction with your Community Services Manager, you’ll work together to ensure we are where we are needed most.

An easy initiative already underway was linking our car seat tech teams in with Pasifika Mama playgroup where we could provide specialist support and install advice.

Working with volunteers and attending events may require weekend work from time to time. The salary for this role $29.90 an hour.

He kōrero mōu | About you

At the centre of this role is people – you’ll have the ability to network internally and externally and be a professional representative of the organisation. A fair level of computer literacy is needed as you’ll post and engage with whānau on our local social media pages and promote opportunities to prospective volunteers.

While experience working in the community would be advantageous, asking the right questions to understand the journey and services needed by parents and caregivers, then the drive to make it a reality is key to this role. Ideally you will be well networked across this region and able to hit the ground running with insights and ideas to help us move forward.

You love connecting with people and building real relationships with whānau. You’re comfortable working in ways that reflect and respect Māori and Pasifika cultures, and you understand how important it is to listen, learn, and meet families where they are.
