Job summary

Lightfoot Initiative in Queenstown is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day running of the charity, ensure programmes are delivered on time and within budget, and line manage a small team including our Events Coordinator.

The role involves hands-on community engagement, building relationships with residents, schools and partners, overseeing volunteers and contractors, and taking the lead on health and safety, risk management and reporting.

Qualifications

• Senior experience in operational delivery, ideally in a not-for-profit, community or programme environment.
• A people leader who brings energy, clarity and care to a small team.
• Confident managing budgets, programmes and day-to-day operations.
• Highly organised and confident with systems and technology.
• Confident meeting people, starting conversations and building relationships across the community.
• Comfortable presenting and speaking at events.
• Flexible about when you work, including some evenings and weekends.
• Excellent communicator with a wide range of people.
• Strong cultural competence and commitment to equitable outcomes for Māori and all communities.
• Self-starter with drive, integrity and adaptability.
• Genuine passion for active travel, sustainability and positive community change.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop a small, diverse team and grow our volunteer base.
• Oversee delivery of programmes and campaigns to meet KPIs and funder commitments.
• Manage budgets and support CE with financial reporting, risk management and compliance.
• Run people processes such as recruitment, induction, training and performance reviews.
• Build relationships with residents, schools, businesses and partners to support events.
• Lead health and safety across our people, events and activities.
• Build strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
• Identify ways to improve systems and processes as we grow.
