Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in media relations, journalism, or communications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to craft engaging content.
• Strong understanding of the media landscape, especially in the Eastern Cape region.
• Experience in building and maintaining media relationships.
• Proficiency with MS Office and media monitoring tools.
• Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• A passion for the organization’s mission and public service.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement media relations strategies to increase visibility.
• Cultivate relationships with journalists, editors, and broadcast producers.
• Write and distribute press releases and media advisories.
• Pitch stories to local, regional, and national media.
• Monitor coverage and report placements and themes.
• Coordinate interviews and media appearances for spokespeople.
• Assist with communication materials including website content and social updates.
• Support press conferences and public events.
• Manage media contact lists and databases.
• Assist with crisis communication as needed.
