Job summary

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) is looking for an Adviser, Communications - Internal & External in Wellington for a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will contribute to internal and external communications across digital and face-to-face channels.

You will manage social media, create written and visual content, support the podcast programme, and oversee intranet and graphic design for digital and print. Strong writing and multi-channel skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Sound writing and editorial experience in-house or agency (3+ years preferred).
• Experience producing content for multiple channels and audiences.
• Strong knowledge of social media technologies and engagement strategies.
• Familiarity with LinkedIn, Facebook, X and other paid media channels.
• Analytical, planning and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow the FMA's social media channels and online communities, ensuring content is consistent, engaging and audience-focused.
• Create high‑quality written, visual and multimedia content for internal and external audiences.
• Support the delivery and promotion of the FMA's podcast programme.
• Manage and update internal communication channels, including our intranet Ātea and Viva Engage.
• Lead graphic design work and create visual assets for digital and print channels.
• Monitor, measure and evaluate social media performance and engagement to drive improvements.
• Support planning and delivery of communications campaigns and initiatives.
• Provide trusted communications advice across the organisation.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to New Zealand's financial system while working alongside passionate and highly capable colleagues. We're looking for an experienced Adviser, Communications - Internal & External to join our Communications and Delivery team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role provides cover during a period of professional development leave and offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of internal and external communications activities. As part of our External Relations and Communications team, you'll play a key role in delivering engaging content that supports the FMA's strategic priorities and enhances the experience of our stakeholders across digital and face-to-face channels.

In this varied role, you'll:

• Manage and grow the FMA's social media channels and online communities, ensuring content is consistent, engaging and audience-focused.
• Create high-quality written, visual and multimedia content for internal and external audiences.
• Support the delivery and promotion of the FMA's podcast programme.
• Manage and update internal communication channels, including our popular Intranet site 'Ātea' and Viva Engage.
• Lead graphic design work and create visual assets for digital and print channels.
• Monitor, measure and evaluate social media performance and community engagement, using insights to continuously improve outcomes.
• Support the planning and delivery of communications campaigns, projects and organisational initiatives.
• Provide trusted communications advice and support across the organisation.

This role combines creativity, relationship management and data-driven communications. It would suit someone who enjoys working across multiple channels and projects while contributing to work that makes a real difference for New Zealanders.

• Sound writing and editorial experience in an in-house or agency communications role (e.g. ideally 3 years+), working across multiple audiences and channels.
• Strong writing, editing and content creation skills.
• Experience producing a variety of content for different channels.
• Strong knowledge of social media technologies, trends and practices, including how to maximise audience engagement.
• Experience in social media monitoring, measurement, evaluation and community management.
• Familiarity with creating and managing content for LinkedIn, Facebook, X, marketing communications and other paid media channels.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking and reasoning skills.
• Outstanding task prioritisation, time management, planning and organisational skills.
• The ability to quickly establish credibility and build trust and respect.
• Effective self-management skills, including sound social judgement, diplomacy and the ability to exercise influence.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and, ideally, design software including Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
• Experience in graphic design, photography, video production or podcast content would also be highly valued.

The likely appointing salary range for this role is $95,000-$105,000 plus a 4% KiwiSaver employer contribution and the benefits outlined above.
