Job summary

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) in New Zealand seeks a Senior Adviser in the Climate-related Disclosures (CRD) team. You will play a key role in regulating an evolving reporting regime and help ensure climate statements provide meaningful, reliable information to support market transparency.

This full-time role may be 0.8 FTE. You will work with climate reporting entities, industry stakeholders, and colleagues across the FMA to drive compliance, build capability, and deliver practical

Qualifications

• Experience in climate-related disclosures, sustainability reporting, or audit/assurance of greenhouse gas emissions.
• Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
• Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, practical insights.
• Experience engaging with senior stakeholders.
• A traditional audit background could be an added benefit.

Responsibilities

• Review climate statements against relevant legislation, regulations and climate reporting standards.
• Lead a portfolio of proactive monitoring and review work, focusing on areas of greatest risk and impact.
• Produce regulatory guidance, monitoring reports and feedback for climate reporting entities.
• Manage stakeholder engagement through meetings, presentations and feedback discussions.
• Respond to market enquiries and contribute to investigations where non-compliance is identified.
• Support projects and thematic work that strengthen the FMA's oversight of the climate-related disclosure regime.

Join us as a Senior Adviser in our Climate-related Disclosures (CRD) team, where you'll play a key role in regulating one of New Zealand's most innovative and evolving reporting regimes. You'll help ensure climate statements provide meaningful, reliable information that supports market transparency, informed decision-making and confidence in our financial markets.

Although this is a full time role, we are open to candidates interested in working 0.8 FTE. This is a unique opportunity to combine technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and regulatory oversight in an area that continues to grow in importance across Aotearoa's financial system. You'll work closely with climate reporting entities, industry stakeholders and colleagues across the FMA to support compliance, build capability and drive positive outcomes.

Your mahi will include but will not be limited to:

• Reviewing climate statements against relevant legislation, regulations and climate reporting standards.
• Leading a portfolio of proactive monitoring and review work, focusing on areas of greatest risk and impact.
• Producing regulatory guidance, monitoring reports and feedback for climate reporting entities.
• Managing stakeholder engagement through meetings, presentations and feedback discussions.
• Responding to market enquiries and contributing to investigations where non‑compliance is identified.
• Supporting projects and thematic work that strengthen the FMA's oversight of the climate-related disclosure regime.

He kōrero mōu | About you

You'll be a technically strong professional who enjoys tackling complex issues and exercising sound judgement. You're equally comfortable diving into detailed analysis as you are engaging with stakeholders and translating technical concepts into clear, practical insights. Experience in climate-related disclosures, sustainability reporting, or the audit or assurance of greenhouse gas emissions, is desirable. A traditional audit background could be an added benefit (but is not a prerequisite) as there may be opportunities to periodically work within other teams at the FMA. You'll also bring:

• Excellent written communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and reasoning capability.
• Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and facilitating constructive conversations.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in an evolving environment.
• A collaborative approach and the initiative to identify opportunities for improvement and contribute beyond your core portfolio.
