Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a skilled Clinical Ethics Lead to provide SMO expertise into the Clinical Ethics Advisory Group, leading end-to-end ethics reviews and guiding triage, allocation, escalation and reporting. This role supports coordinated, district-wide ethics advice and strengthens patient safety and quality outcomes.

• Vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
• Evidence of training at undergraduate or postgraduate level in Clinical Ethics.
• Proven leadership experience.
• Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
• Open, approachable and flexible professional.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end clinical ethics review processes (triage, allocation, escalation, reporting).
• Enhance consistency, visibility and accountability across services.
• Coordinate ethics advice across district services to improve governance.
• Ensure timely ethics advice and drive improvements in patient safety and quality outcomes.
• Report to the Clinical Director, Centre of Clinical Excellence, and support governance across the district.

About the role

The Clinical Ethics Lead provides valuable SMO expertise into the Clinical Ethics Advisory Group byProviding end-to-end leadership of clinical ethics review processes, including triage, review allocation, risk escalation and reporting. Enhancing consistency, visibility and accountability across services. Enabling more coordinated, cohesive delivery of this advice across district services This enables a sustainable way to manage Clinical Ethics requests and meet the organisations' needs. This role will be critical to ensuring Clinical Ethics advice and reporting activity is not only timely but drives sustained improvement in patient safety and quality outcomes. The role reports to the Clinical Director, Centre of Clinical Excellence at CCHV. Covering the CCHV District, the Centre of Clinical Excellence is the engine room of clinical governance across the district. We are a team of people who place high value on patient safety and staff wellbeing through management of core clinical governance portfolios.
