Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Wellington is seeking a Urologist to join the team as a Senior Medical Officer, providing acute and elective care across outpatient, inpatient and theatre services.

The successful candidate will be voca­tionally registered with MCNZ, hold FRACS or an equivalent qualification, and participate in on-call rosters, supervision of junior doctors, and service initiatives within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Vocational registration in urology with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or eligibility.
• FRACS or equivalent qualification and ability to register for vocational practice.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate across services.
• Experience in supervising junior medical staff and residents.

Responsibilities

• Provide acute and elective clinical care across outpatient, inpatient and theatre settings.
• Participate in an on-call roster as part of the SMO team.
• Engage in relevant service and clinical meetings.
• Assist with supervision and training of Resident Medical Officers.
• Contribute to service and organisational initiatives.

About the roleAn opportunity exists for a Urologist to join our team in Wellington The Urology service provides a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient urology service for the Wellington region, including Hutt Valley.As a Senior Medical Officer (SMO), you will be responsible for providing a high standard of clinical practice and expertise to the patients under your care. It is essential that you are eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of NewZealand. You will be known by your peers as someone who is able to work within a multi-disciplinary environment, being able to engage with a number of different people from various backgrounds. You will also be expected to participate in the supervision and instruction of junior doctors within the service. About the service

About the serviceThe successful candidate willbe joining a team of 4 Urologists, a MOSS, 4 Clinical Nurse Specialists and 4 Clinic Nurses. The service is a regional one, delivering a large proportion ofpatient care from Wellington Regional Hospital, with some surgery at KenepuruHospital. A new department, with enhanced clinical areas was occupied in August2023. The SMO team is supportive of nurse-led practice and will be assisting inthe development of enhanced pathways for some procedural areas. Wellington iscurrently in the approvals process for acquiring a Soft Tissue Surgical Robot,which will contribute to our ability to deliver patient focused and evidenceled care.
