Job description

We’re looking for a Client Accountant to join our Finance team at Omnicom Advertising in 2027

Omnicom Advertising is looking for a commercially minded Client Accountant to take ownership of the financial management of an assigned client portfolio. You’ll partner closely with Account Service and finance teams across our New Zealand agencies, providing clear financial insight and helping teams make informed commercial decisions.

This is an opportunity to build a broad view of agency finance across revenue, work in progress, forecasting, profitability and working capital. Advertising is creative, fast-paced and people-focused, so if you enjoy combining strong financial discipline with collaborative stakeholder relationships, this could be the role for you.

We're not necessarily looking for a qualified Accountant, if you're wanting to complete a CA or CPA qualification, we would be able to provide mentorship in a supportive environment.

The role

As Client Accountant, you’ll be the go-to finance partner for your allocated client portfolio. You’ll help ensure client billing and revenue are accurate, jobs are reconciled and closed on time, forecasts are current, and financial risks are identified and escalated early.

Working closely with Account Service, agency finance leads, other client accountants and Omnicom Shared Services, you’ll maintain robust financial controls while also looking for practical ways to improve and automate finance processes.

Responsibilities
  • Work with Account Service to ensure client billings are accurate and consistent with contractual arrangements.
  • Review jobcost reports and prepare invoice proposals for client billing.
  • Review client revenue and prepare associated revenue recognition journals.
  • Reconcile and close jobs in a timely manner, and review and approve staff timesheets.
  • Support month-end processes for your assigned client portfolio.
  • Review and analyze work in progress, including required reconciliations and journals.
  • Update client revenue forecasts in consolidation with Account Service and prepare retainer reconciliations.
  • Monitor working capital weekly and monthly, following up matters that affect billing, revenue or cash collection
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and provide clear commercial insight to stakeholders.
  • Follow company policies, procedures and internal controls so financial information is complete, accurate and properly recorded
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate finance processes and ways of working.
  • Identify systemic issues, develop practical remediation plans, and escalating material billing, revenue, WIP, profitability or working capital risks.
What will you bring?

We’re looking for someone who can combine accurate accounting with confident stakeholders’ partnership. You’ll be proactive, organized and comfortable taking ownership of competing priorities through to completion. You will have at least 3+ years of experience in billings, revenue reconciliations, in business where the main revenue streams are billable services.

  • Experience in client management or commercial accounting, ideally with exposure to billing, revenue, and forecasting.
  • Strong financial analysis skills and the ability to turn financial information into practical commercial insights.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a disciplined approach to financial controls and deadlines.
  • Confidence working collaboratively with Account Service teams, finance colleagues and shared services partners.
  • A proactive problem-solving mindset, including the ability to identify systemic issues and communicate workable solutions.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and people skills.
  • An interest in improving and automating finance processes in a fast-paced environment.
